What is the Gopher?
Gopher (noun)
- A burrowing rodent with fur-lined pouches on the outside of the cheeks, found in North and Central America.
- A volunteer at a convention essential to the running of the event and supporting the committee
HotaruCon is a fan run event and as such we rely on volunteers to help out in different ways. That can take many forms such as joining the committee, running panels or generally supporting the convention.
That last category are the Gophers, people who want to get involved and ensure that things run smoothly for their fellow con-goers by volunteering their time over the weekend. These are the unsung heroes of the convention world.
What does it involve?
The responsibilities of the Gopher are many, to name a few you have:
- Assisting with registration
- Checking badges
- Monitoring event rooms
- Setting up and tearing down
Who volunteers to be a Gopher?
All sorts of people. Maybe you’re interested in joining the committee or starting an event of your own and want to see what that involves?
Perhaps you like the idea of helping out your fellow attendees or have some unique skills that will assist in bringing everything together
