Accessibility

Our commitment to accessibility:

Carer Tickets:

FREE Carer Tickets available for paid attendees who require them

Tick ‘Do you require a ticket for a carer?’ to secure their space when you register

Consult our FAQ or T and Cs for full list of accepted criteria

Scheduling:

Complete events schedule will be available in iCal or pdf download, and on our website, a minimum of 1 month before the event

Full weekend schedule also supplied in the ConBook

Minimum 15 minute gaps between events (except parties) so you don’t have to rush

Room Access/Queueing:

Let the gopher/volunteer on the door of any event know you need priority access to a room

Choice of seating location where possible

If you want to be seated/enter with your group but cannot stand for long periods, let a gopher/volunteer know and either a seat or space will be found for you to wait till your group reaches the front of the queue. Seats cannot be held for more than your Carer if you choose priority seating

Stage Access:

Our 6m x 3m stage has safety railings on both 3m sides and a wall at the back

The stage is accessed by a 4ft wide ramp that supports light weight vehicles

Access to the ramp is through two sets of double doors and a short corridor

Parties:

Strobe lighting is not allowed at HotaruCon

If you wish to attend any of the parties but have sensitivity to light or sound please let a member of the committee or tech team know ahead of time. Where possible we will consult with DJs to see if part of the set can be easier to access

Seating will be available around the edges of the room for all parties

Amenities:

FREE spray on deodorant, pads and tampons will be available in ALL first-floor bathrooms

Water available in all first floor panel rooms (and at the bar obviously)

Quiet Space:

Outside of scheduled events clearly labelled on the events schedule, the Activity Room on Level 2 is intended to be used as a space for chill activities such as reading, crafting, drawing etc. if you need somewhere to re-centre

Safety:

Alert a gopher, volunteer or committee member if you need help (or security in the evenings)

If you are not comfortable approaching someone, or unable to, the convention phone number will be active over the convention weekend to text for help

We want HotaruCon to be a space where everyone can feel at home, safe and able to enjoy the event to their fullest.

We’re always looking for ways to improve so don’t hesitate to reach out before or during the weekend if there’s anything you can think of for us to consider!

See you in November~✨
