FAQs: Cosplay Chess

How many people will be chosen?

A chessboard is 32 pieces. We will endeavour to give everyone who applies a role, but please note this may not be possible due to the inherent limitations of the format! The sooner you apply, the better your chances :)

How can I apply?

The form can be found here: https://forms.gle/KCpSrgXwu5kFXZHh8 It’s also linked in the #cosplay-chess discord channel!

When can I apply?

The deadline for applications is October 1st 2022! We need time to script which pieces will be facing off, and then participants also need time to prepare. If you have any questions about this or believe you have exceptional circumstances (e.g. you can’t finalise your cosplay plans until the following week), please get in touch with Tabby (Thesparkofrevolution) or Mariam (Ceresel) via the discord server.

Is it OK that I didn't make my own costume?

This is not a competition, so store bought/commissioned costumes are completely acceptable. Costumes that have been previously entered in other competitions or the HotaruCon Masquerade are also completely acceptable.

My costume has moving parts/big weapons/could disturb others. Is it a problem?

If you are concerned about the size of your costume please contact (Thesparkofrevolution) or Mariam (Ceresel) via the discord server. As a general rule, participants should be able to move unassisted (unless there is an accessibility requirement which you have made us aware of in advance) and without significantly impeding others.

How do I know if I have been selected?

Shortly after the October 1st deadline, all applicants (selected or not) will be contacted with the outcome of their application. As stated above, we will endeavour to give everyone who applies the opportunity to participate!

I have been selected! What do I need to do before the convention?

You will be invited to the Cosplay Chess Discord Server, where information about the full game script, movements and battles will be posted. This invite will be sent by email so please keep an eye on them! You will be expected to figure out your battle scenes in advance of the convention, but don't worry, an organiser will be available for ideas if you get really stuck. There will be a rehearsal on the day, but there most likely will not be time to run through all the battle sequences; this will primarily be to ensure everyone knows the running order and to confirm logistics e.g. for accessibility.
